The Youth Committee help shape services Mind of the Student deliver in secondary schools based in England and Wales.
Every year, we select a new Youth Committee. If you are interested in bettering mental health education and would like to join the Youth Committee, register your interest today.
What’s involved?
Through your lived experience, expertise and knowledge, together we can improve mental health education in every schools.
1. Ensure MOTS is right for young people
Young people, in school, is our priority. Help us ensure the work we do is relevant and current to young people.
The Youth Committee meet once per month to discuss programmes MOTS deliver and share new ideas to improve how the charity supports young people.
2. Training and Induction before you start
Before joining the Youth Committee, you will be inducted to Mind of the Student, and offered training to help with your role on the Committee.
3. Attend our Trustee Board meetings
Our Board meets quarterly.
As a Youth Committee member, you may be given the opportunity to observe a Board meeting, and share your thoughts to trustees on the current MOTS strategy.
4. Visiting MOTS schools
As part of your role as a Committee member, you may be asked to visit schools, and collect feedback from teachers and students who have benefited from our work.
This feedback is discussed at the Youth Committee’s monthly meetings.
5. Event planning and fundraising
Youth Committee members regularly support with MOTS events and fundraising. We offer additional training for event planning!

How old do I have to be to join?
You must be aged between 15 and 24 to join the Youth Committee.
If you are under 15, why not join our Change Makers instead.
Are meetings remote or in-person?
Our monthly Youth Committee meetings are held on Microsoft Teams, therefore you can attend these in the comfort of your own home.
If you are attending a Trustee Board meeting, these are in-person, therefore MOTS will reimburse your travel expenses and provide a lunch voucher.
Do I have to attend every meeting?
It is expected that you attend every meeting but we understand that this may not always be possible, especially during your exams, if you are away on holiday or unwell. Please email us in advance of any planned absences.
Does registering guarantee a space?
Unfortunately, due to the amount of interest we get to join the Youth Committee, we cannot guarantee a space on the Committee.
However, please reapply next year if you are unsuccessful. Applications are open between 02/01/2024 – 03/02/2024 (same dates every year).
