Charity launches to combat lack of mental health support and cut waiting times

A new charity has launched to support students in London, Essex and South East England on their mental health, in response to the current waiting times for support from CAHMS.

Mind of the Student will provide low-level intervention workshops, learning resources and training to schools on mental health topics, including depression, anxiety, social media pressures and exam stress.

In a recent survey, it was revealed that 68% of students reported being absent from school due to mental health and anxiety.

Mind of the Student says they hope to reduce these figures through their school mental health program and in-classroom learning resources.

Dr Chuks, the charity’s clinical lead says, “Mind of the Student offers something truly special. It addresses the mystifying topic of mental health from its roots—knowledge. It provides a much-needed education with which the future generation can stand up to its inevitable challenges.”

The charity hopes to deliver its mental health program to over 100 schools in London, Essex and South East England.

A spokesperson from the charity says, “We are looking forward to working closely with schools across all our localities on delivering vital mental health education to students.

Mental health must be openly talked about in the classroom and at home, which should be encouraged by teaching staff and the education sector. Mind of the Student hopes to improve student’s understanding of what mental health is, how to get support and how to help themselves.”
